Climate targets The global climate target of Nouryon (former AkzoNobel) is to reduce the total impact on climate change of its products by 25-30 % across the entire value chain until 2020, based on 2012. Nouryon’s own operations account for 15 % of this total impact. The rest is in Scope 3. Nouryon does not have a specific target for its Swedish businesses.
How will the targets be achieved? As Nouryon’s own operations account for a small part of the climate impact caused by their products, the focus is primarily to reduce climate impact upstream from raw materials and downstream by customers, end users and at end-of-life. Nouryonachieves this by, for example, entering into long-term agreements with renewable raw material suppliers, driving improvements with key suppliers and partnering with customers in developing more sustainable solutions. The production sites continuously work to reduce energy consumption, increase the share of renewable energy and reduce waste and emissions of primarily volatile organic compounds (VOCs). All of these have separate targets. An example of how Nouryonincrease the share of renewable energy is their work in the Nordic wind consortium VindIn.
