75. Rare earth elements with 90 percent lower emissions

The Norwegian company REEtec, is now building their first rare earth elements (REE) separation plant which is planned to be in operation in the fall of 2024. A key feature of the REE separation process is that virtually all inputs are recovered and recycled. The energy demand is also very low and electricity consumption is based 100 per cent on hydro-electric sources from Norway’s green grid. The REEtec process combines high efficiency and competitive cost, with up to 90 percent lower carbon dioxide emissions than the commonly used separation process.
