Led by Haga Initiative
Ensuring the right skills is one of the major obstacles to climate change in the Nordic region. The workstream thus works to ensure a green and fair climate transition with a focus on a well-functioning labor market, with low unemployment rates in the Nordics, while supporting companies' green transition through increased Nordic cooperation.
The Haga Initiative has facilitated three workshops during 2021 and 2022 with a focus on increasing cooperation between the Nordic countries and exchanging knowledge regarding skill development for the green transformation, with participation from the Nordic business organizations, politics, and trade unions (read about these meetings here and hereThese meetings have expressed that there is a great need for competence for the green transition. The situation is urgent, and the lack of competence can slow down the green transition.
The workshop series has highlighted that there is an urgent need for qualified workforce for the green transition and a platform for sharing knowledge, best practices, and opportunities for collaboration at the Nordic level. Therefore, the Haga Initiative has established a dialogue platform with an expert group aimed at fulfilling this need and providing contact points that will persist beyond the work in the sub-area.
The workshop series with the expert groups has also resulted in establishing a consensus around the biggest challenges and the most important priorities that important actors need to tackle to secure the skills needed for the climate transformation. These insights are important as a guide for the final recommendations that the workstream will deliver in 2024.
The Haga Initiative continues to run workshops until 2024 to exchange knowledge, good examples and drive Nordic cooperation. In the fall of 2023, the Haga initiative welcomes politics, business, organizations and other relevant actors to participate in a seminar to raise the topic to a wider audience.
