11. Recycled carbon black reduces emissions by 80 percent

The Swedish company Enviro has developed a patented pyrolysis technology that makes it possible to extract carbon black, oil, steel and gas from used tires, which can then be returned to the production of, for example, rubber in industry. According to a life cycle analysis from IVL Swedish Environmental Institute, the recycled carbon black leads to 79-84 percent lower CO2e emissions compared to producing virgin carbon black. Enviro recently entered into a partnership with the tire manufacturer Michelin, which will, among other things, result in a new recycling plant in Chile with an annual recycling capacity of 25,000–30,000 tonnes of vehicle tires.
