Incorporating plastic packaging into the deposit system is an important step towards a more circular economy with reduced climate impact from the food industry. The deposit system has several advantages, in addition to reduced littering, it creates a cleaner material flow from which it is possible to make new, high-quality products. Axfood was, after several years of work, first out with both the return of juice bottles in plastic in 2015 and juice bottles in 2018. More products have since followed, including smoothies in plastic bottles. The recycled juice bottles of the Garant brand have been used to make new PET bottles, and during the first year the climate impact has been reduced by the equivalent of just over 60,000 kilos of carbon dioxide.
