Hjälpmedelscentralen, together with the care providers in the Västra Götaland region and the 49 participating municipalities, has for a long time worked with reconditioning and reuse of its products to reduce the environmental impact and reduce costs. The work of reconditioning and reusing instead of buying new means that approximately 550,000 new purchases, of which 77,500 wheelchairs have been avoided during the measurement period 2012–2018. According to calculations, this means a total saving of about 3,198 tonnes of CO2, only for the aluminum in the wheelchairs.
