24. Residues from the field become energy

Lantmännen receives harvested grain from Swedish farmers at about 50 facilities. Here, the grains are weighed in for sales, exports and later production of, among other things, food, feed and ethanol. All volumes are cleaned at the reception and residual products such as chaff, which are not grain kernels, are sorted out. The residual products are resold for the production of bio-based energy, for example for biogas and also as renewable district heating fuel in Lantmännen Agrovärme. Demand is increasing, above all in biogas production, which is shifting more and more raw materials to residual products.

Other residual products from Lantmännen’s production, such as oat shells from mills, are also used for heat production and as feed raw material.
