Cashewmeetly and Axfood have launched a new sustainable vegan meat made from cashew apple. In Africa alone, 16 million tonnes of cashews is being spoiled every year in connection with the harvest of cashews, which results in a huge food waste. For every 10 kilos of cashews consumed today, 90 kilos of fully edible and nutritious cashews are thrown away, which has been seen as a waste product until now. The consumption of cashews increase by about 40 percent per year, along with the food waste of all the discarded cashews as well. This new vegetarian meat are being made from the pulp of the cashew apple, which results in a reduction of food waste. The product maintains a high quality of taste, and is completely natural, such as contributes to sustainable food production.
