Sysav’s textile sorting plant Siptex in Malmö is the world’s first of its kind, and sorts textile waste by fiber type and color. It automatically sorts textiles by fiber type, which makes it possible to handle large flows and makes it possible to produce textile fractions that are adapted to different recycling processes. The textiles that come to the facility in Malmö comes from items that cannot be reused, for example broken garments, or textile waste from industry. The sorting service is a sustainable alternative for textiles that would otherwise have been incinerated. In full operation, the Siptex plant has the capacity to sort 24,000 tonnes of textiles per year, which corresponds to approximately 30 percent of the textiles thrown in Sweden during the same period.
