In 2020, a collaboration between Willys and Axfood’s brand Garant was initiated in order to find new, innovative ways to combat food waste by collaborating on supplier and store levels. The collaboration resulted in the items Fula Fiskar (Ugly Fish), Maxad lax (Maxed-out Salmon) and Skeva skivor (Skewed Slices). Ugly fishes consist of parts of breaded cod that previously was sorted out because the breading was chafed or the pieces were uneven. Skewed slices are waste pieces from the production of sliced sandwich toppings, and Maxed salmon consist of waste pieces of sliced smoked and cured salmon. All the items are now being sold at Willys for a reduced price.
