Rare earth metals are of great importance not only for the economy but also for the green transition. For example, neodymium is often used for wind power offshore generators. By recycling and refining mining waste, LKAB hopes to supply as much as 30 percent of the EU’s daily need for rare earth metals. When the extraction takes place in Sweden, the chances of strengthened social sustainability in the production chain also increase.
