Skipper’s boat sharing services are based on circularity, which reduces resource use and normalizes shared use. Manufacturing emissions are reduced when the boats are used efficiently by more people instead of even more (new) boats lying unused at the docks. The number of electric boats in the service is constantly increasing and the company has been involved in developing an electric boat model adapted for sharing. All of Skipper’s own member boats are also equipped with a proprietary geofencing solution that protects sensitive areas by notifying the driver that they are approaching a protected area. The company’s boat fleet also collects data and is used for tests of products intended to reduce environmental impact, such as alternatives to conventional bottom paint in the form of biocide-free bottom paint and hull fabric.
