87. 100 Percent Circular Cartonboard Packaging

Fiskeby Board in Norrköping is a leading example of sustainability in the paper industry. They use 100 percent recovered fibre in the production of new carton board packaging, which is unique in Scandinavia. This includes fibres from beverage cartonboards and plastic-coated packaging, something no other cartonboard factory in the region does. This circular process is efficient and reduces energy consumption by approximately 40 percent compared to using virgin fibre.

Fiskeby recycles around 180,000 tons of recovered fibre every year. If the recycled cellulose had instead incinerated, it would have caused emissions of approximately 220,000 tons of carbon dioxide. Fiskeby’s recycling process now generates only about 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, meaning they are reducing emissions by 120,000 tons per year. This is a significant step towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly production.
