Expandia is one of the leading suppliers of temporary buildings in the Nordic region, offering quick rental solutions for schools, preschools, healthcare, offices, and housing. The wooden modules, manufactured in Sweden, are based on the principle of reuse, which has been a part of the company’s philosophy since 1989.
Expandia’s modules are an example of the sharing economy, where everyone shares both the costs and emissions that arise from the production of the modules. This allows them to be used efficiently by multiple parties over time, contributing to reduced environmental impact.
Building a modular solution with used modules generates emissions of only about 6 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents per square meter, whereas newly built modules result in approximately 82 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents per square meter. Expandia collaborates with suppliers and manufacturers to encourage them to reclaim scrap materials and damaged products for recycling in their production. For instance, in 2023, floor mats equivalent to 5 925 kg of carbon dioxide emissions were recycled.
